Historical places in Kyrenia

Now, if we talk of the historical places which are here in Kyrenia then one can find so many options to begin with. It is already being said that this island is just the island for everyone. But if you are a historian or have some interest in the history of any place then this island has so many historical spots which will just force you to think over of how the bygone days here were or how people used to live here etc.

Kyrenia harbor is of course, one of the best attractions here. Many of the tourists begin their exploration of the town Kyrenia with this place. It is, in fact, one of the best places in Kyrenia.

Historical places here in Nicosia

There are just so many historical places here in Nicosia, (Remember this that Nicosia (known popularly here by the name Lefkosa) is the capital of the Northern Cyprus island). The first place to be seen here in Nicosia would be Bedesten which is said to be constructed in the twelfth century. It was initially a Byzantine church (to be more precise, St. Nicholas Church), but changes were made by Lusignans. It should be said here that this historical monuments speak of the wonder of the island in a clear manner.

Other historical attractions may include Nicosia City Walls, The Great Inn, Venetian Column and Ataturk Square etc. You can visit some of the oldest mosques here such as Turunclu Mosque, Haydarpasa Mosque, The Arab Ahmet Mosque etc. The Dervis Pasa Mansion is also a great place to visit.

This island is just beautiful and places here hold history that can just attract anyone. You go to any part of the island such as Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia or Lefke or Yeni Iskele etc and you will find on or the other thing that will truly keep you attracted to the place. Presenting the history of this island was really a tougher task for us

With the intention to make a documentary film on historical monuments in Famagusta and Kyrenia, our team reached Northern Cyprus island, which is in fact, now one of the ideal the and most beautiful holiday destinations which possesses great climatic conditions with beautifully warm summers, and the lovely mild winters etc. (Of course, we had to look for the budgeted Northern Cyprus holiday package, he got the best Northern Cyprus holiday deal).

It was in the month of august, the temperature was round 36 to 40 degrees. In fact, we selected that month because we were quite aware of the fact that island would be full of visitors, from across the world especially in this month July-Aug (many of the visitors come here for their cheap summer holidays or beach holidays, the real joy of enjoying the beach holidays in Northern Cyprus would be in the hot season here. Visitors come here to spend their beach holidays in Famagusta or their beach holidays in Kyrenia or many other places in Northern Cyprus).

 

History of the Northern Cyprus Island

Long time back, when I was just 10 years older, I had the privilege to visit this island with my father, who was on some voyage. This island was the resting place for us where the crew had to wait for a day or two and then continue the voyage. I had the chance to be here on this island with my father for whole two days which evinced in me the interest related to the history. I remembered my father took me to the historical places here such as the Famagusta city walls, the ruins of the salamis etc. as I was just a small child so I was not that able to understand the significance of the places I visited then. I was just observing things, mimicking the attention of my father, who himself was a great historian, besides being a captain of the large sailing ship. Even though he had no formal education yet he was an avid reader and had great interest in the history of any country (What I still remember is this that my father was not at all interested in holidaying as many of the people are. I had the chance to visit so many places with my father not for the fun or holidays but to see how beautiful the world can be. Not on a single occasion did my father spend money lavishly, he was very careful when it comes to spending money for holidays or anything).

After twenty years

Now, the sub-heading here: after “twenty years” may sound to be the title of one of the best stories of “O Henry” in English literature but to be frank I do not find any suitable heading then this here. It was exactly after twenty years that I got the chance to visit this beautiful island again (where I had the chance to gain the knowledge on history of this island in a true manner). During my last visit to this island with my father I was just really a child who expressed happiness in being the most beautiful place on earth. I was just enjoying playing football with small kids on one of the beaches in the Kyrenia (or was that a beach in Famagusta? Well I do not exactly remember).
But, now the things were different. Just a week back, we friends were discussing where to shoot our next documentary movie. The team members in my team are all experts with years of experience in photographing. We make documentary films on places which have great historical importance or which can just attract the viewers. Some of the viewers who view our documentary films just get so very engrossed in the story of the history we explain that they decide to see the place themselves.

I learned a lot of things about the history of the Egypt, history of the different European cultures, history of the Mughal Indians etc.
